I entered the foster care system at age five after self-reporting sexual abuse to a social worker who was investigating my mother for neglect. I was separated from my siblings and moved from home to home until I was finally placed in the home of a family who would eventually adopt my younger sister and me. This piece walks through the seasons of my story from the abuse, to trusting strangers, to finally trusting Jesus to mend the broken places in my heart and help me begin healing from all of the things I endured as a young child.
